Sunday’s dinner.
Sabudana kichdi. Fried sago pearls.
I would be remiss if I didn’t post..
Disasters too.
Soaked sago pearls. In a little water.
For ages.
Sprinkled more water.
Stared and stared in the hope that I might stare and scare them into behaving.
I’d over estimated the amount I’d soaked.
They obviously misbehaved and doubled.
Anyway, stoically, diligently, unwaveringly, stubbornly followed recipe.
Generously smothered sago with coarsely powdered, roasted, deskinned peanuts.
Added tiny cubes of boiled potato.
Salt to taste.
Tempered cummin, chopped green chillies, and fried the sago mix.
Covered and cooked for a bit.
Threw in for good measure, fresh grated coconut and coriander leaves.
For husband and me. As we watched a Tamizh movie – Kalyana Samayal Sadham, which loosely translates to Wedding Feast.
How appropriate (not).
Girls insisted on ordering in their first takeout after ages – mozzarella stuffed crust pizzas, then disappeared.
Husband promptly got the sniffles and sneezes as sago has a cooling effect on the system, and not recommended to be consumed at night. Nothing an antihistamine and steam inhalation wouldn’t cure.
