SS 34/100/2020

My post was going to be about the SS rule on kindness, then thought I’d include India Independence Day too.

Kalpana Iyer ji’s ‘Be Kind, it costs nothing’ principle she abides by;
Seema Shrivastava ji’s post on her beautiful gesture with the mangoes for the children and
SS rule #4 Be Kind and Courteous,
Prompted me to write about this incident at our local supermarket.
Had paid for my groceries and was about to roll my trolley away when I heard the lady at the till ask the teenage boy behind me if he had 50 cents.
Realised he was going to get an icecream tub, had $10 with him and was 50 cents short.
Told the lady I’d get it for him.
He looked a little flustered and asked if I was sure.
Said it was ok, paid in full, He thanked me and I asked him to pay it forward, cliched though it may seem.
No points for guessing who felt happier.
With a spring in my step and a song in my heart, on a cold, rainy, wintry night, I got into the car to get the other errands sorted.

And Indian Independence Day.
Am not Indian my birth.
Born in Malaysia, a Malaysian Sri Lankan Tamizh, lived in the UK, Australia and now in New Zealand,
My soul belongs to India.
It yearns to keep visiting Bharat Matha, have been visiting almost annually for as long as I can remember, before, after marriage, with, without family.

And so, I drape here a green orange simple handloom.
A grass green aunt-told-me-it’s-a-Kanchi cotton-saree. Fresh green striped body, with mustard and gold borders and pallu, gold mangoes on borders. Matching mustard with gold mangoes blouse. Sounds good enough to eat, greens, mustard and mangoes.
I let the pallu run through my fingers, Close my eyes and see green grass and brown earth.
Humble Salutations and Prostrations to Bharat Matha.
Happy India Independence Day Dear Sakhis.
