Draped this gorgeous cream and royal blue/purple kanjivaram handloom with diamond shapes, mangos on pallu and border. Gifted by husband 6 years ago. Throwback to summer of 2016. He was in Chennai then and I was visiting my sister in Perth. I’d not just eyed but had covetted Vocalist Dr Sowmya’s white and light blue kanjivaram when she’d performed in Auckland 18 years ago.
And the good man was attempting to get something like that for me. I was at a dinner party in a childhood friend’s home, basking in the warm sunshine, wolfing down canapes and I get this call. My husband had found a saree with a blue the colour of a mineral water bottle top. A light blue. Sky blue. I was ecstatic. Yes, little things make me happy. We chatted somemore, he’d got some lovely combos for the girls too. One of which D2 finally draped at her graduation ceremony recently! And D1 is now getting the blouse sewn. They’d both been saving the sarees for extra special occasions.
Anyway we all return to NZ and we sit together and do this traditional unravelling and exchange of gifts. And he hands me this gorgeous royal blue cream dream. So thrilled but realised we’d been envisioning two different mineral water bottle caps 😂 So am still on the lookout for Dr Sowmya’s combo 😎 and he doesn’t know..yet.
Draped this for a temple performance at which the students performed/offered their learning to Saraswathi remarkably well.
And to top it all, kindly requested husband to wear matching veshti and kurta.
So off we went, the Wifey in cream and royal blue silk and Husband in silk cream veshti with royal blue border and royal blue silk kurta. Such fun!
But not before a click or two. Note missing stool in photo. Photographer was perched on it in an attempt to get the optimal shot.
